TWO foreigners and six others working on some roads in Erena town, Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State, have been abducted by gunmen.

The victims were said to be working on the construction of 52-kilometre roads from Erena town to Kaure village, a border town between Niger and Kaduna states when they were kidnapped.

This is happening barely a week after suspected bandits attacked communities in Shiroro and Rafi local governments, killing 13 and displacing over 3, 000 residents.

A source said that the foreigners were kidnapped on Monday morning around Galadima- Kogo community in Shiroro Local Government.

It was learnt that the contract for the road was awarded by the former lawmaker representing Niger East Senatorial District, Senator David Umaru, in 2018, and the work has continued despite that he is no longer a serving senator.
