As Sokoto State prepares to host national under-12 and under-15 handball competitions, the state government has expressed commitment to the provision of enabling environment for the promotion of sporting activities.
This is just as Governor Aminu Tambuwal disclosed plans to construct an Olympic size stadium in the state capital in the nearest future to fast track sports development.
Tambuwal stated this during an unscheduled inspection visit to the construction site of the Giginya Memorial Sports Complex, Sokoto towards the hosting of the handball competitions scheduled to hold February 28-March 7.
He expressed the determination of his administration to ensure Sokoto reclaims its known position in sports globally.
“The state government would not relent in its efforts of providing ultra-modern sports environment for sportsmen and women in the state to display their talents,” he stressed.
He noted with satisfaction the quality of the construction of sports courts and pavilions at the stadium.
