Nigerians cautioned against charcoal anthrax

Livestock is one of the most important elements in the agricultural farm environment just to have the necessary commodities in the farm such as food, fibre and transportation around and near the farm. At yuletide, one other important event is an opportunity to have guests treated with the best meal containing high quality beef, chicken among others. The importance of livestock cannot be over-emphasised, however Nigerians are being cautioned against deadly livestock disease as charcoal anthrax hits Niger Republic.

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has informed the public that it is in receipt of a report confirming the outbreak of charcoal anthrax, a bacterial infection that affects cattle and sheep, in Niger Republic.

The service announced this recently and directed it to zonal coordinators, customs area coordinators, comptrollers and zonal commanders headquarters strike force.

It said urgent steps need to be taken to prevent the spread of the disease…
