Son was dismissed in the 62nd minute of the match after he retaliated a foul on him by Chelsea’s German defender Antonio Rudiger.
The centre referee Anthony Taylor needed the VAR (Paul Tierney) input before deciding to send off the South Korean.
Mourinho believes that Rudiger overreacted and tricked the referees into making the wrong call against Son. And has hinted he would be appalled if further punishment, like three-match, is meted out to his player on account of that incident.
It was Son’s third red card of the season including the second that was rescinded after a case of mistaken identity was established.
“I hope Son is not punished five times,” Mourinho remonstrated.
“One time was the foul that Rudiger did on him. The second is to be sent off. The third would be not to play against Brighton. The fourth not to play against Norwich and the fifth not to play against Southampton.
“So, I hope to be punished twice is enough, he doesn’t deserve for the third, the fourth or the fifth.”
Mourinho also blames the Video Assistant Referee, Tierney, for influencing the centre arbiter with a wrong judgement.
II think Mr Tierney made it wrong. This is England, this is the Premier League, the best competition in the world, with characteristics that if we change them, we are killing the best league in the world,” Mourinho concluded.
