Mourinho Bans Spurs Players from Watching 7-2 Defeat To Bayern

Jose Mourinho banned Tottenham Hotspur players from watching a clip of their 7-2 thrashing against Bayern Munich, in their first meeting on matchday two in October.

Mourinho revealed this during Tuesday’s pre-match press conference ahead of their final Group B clash against Bayern on Wednesday.

Both teams have already qualified for the round of 16 making Wednesday’s game a mere formality.

“I forbid any image about it,’ said Mourinho when asked if he had felt the need to discuss with his squad the heavy defeat they suffered two months ago.

“I have watched it a couple of times with my staff and the analysts,” said Mourinho. “We try to go through every detail but not one single image for the boys. Not at all. We are going to focus on us more than Bayern, to develop our model of play.”

Mourinho described the game on Wednesday as a good opportunity to give the fringe players in his team the chance to play.

“This is a great opportunity for some of them to play. For some of them to show what capable of. A player in competition is different to a player in training and some of them didn’t have chance to play many minutes in the five matches I’ve played since arrived.”

Mourinho then recalled his last away visit to Bayern in 2005 in the second-leg quarter-final clash when he was manager of Chelsea.

“I was suspended, I was in the stands. I couldn’t communicate with the team and I decided the best way to do it was to go to the hotel and communicate from the hotel. When I arrived it was 1-0 to Chelsea. We were winning already.”

Chelsea lost the game 3-2 but went through to the semi-final 6-5 on aggregate, after winning the first-leg 4-2 at Stamford Bridge.
