Mikel reveals why Aribo not his successor at Super Eagles

Former Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel has revealed why Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo not his successor at Super Eagles.The 32-year-old Tranzonpor star quits national team after leading  Genort Rohr men to a third-place finish at the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt for the eight times in the country history.Mikel’s Super Eagles number ten jersey was taken by Aribo who made his Nigeria debut few months ago in the 2-2 scored draw against Ukraine.However, Chelsea legend appreciates Ranger’s midfielder talents but believes Everton summer signing Alex Iwobi is his natural successor in the Super Eagles squad and he allowed to continue in that role as he is the only one that plays it perfectly.Mikel told Brilla said: “I like the man who took my number Aribo but many people don’t understand that Alex Iwobi is the player in my role”.”Iwobi started playing that role from the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and I have been impressed with how he has settled in properly. We all know he is a good player so it’s no surprise that he has done well so far”Super Eagles begin their 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers by beating Benin Republic and Lesotho.
