Livestock can generate N3t, says ARMTI director

The Nigerian livestock industry is capable of generating N3 trillion annually, if properly harnessed, the Executive Director of the Agricultural and Rural Management Training Institute (ARMTI), Dr. Olufemi Oladunni, has said.

Speaking with The Nation, he said the livestock sector has a key role to play in providing employment, reducing poverty and boosting economic growth, while supplying animal proteins that are particularly important for improving the diets of nutritionally vulnerable segments of the population.

According to Oladunni, the implementation of a realistic livestock development plan will improve the sector’s performance and contribute to reducing poverty, raising the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and increasing food and nutrition security.
