The judge in the treason trial of Agba Jalingo, a Nigerian journalist, has withdrawn from the case.
Simon Amobeda announced his withdrawal from the case Wednesday after a secret recording where he allegedly made some “biased” remarks against Mr Jalingo was leaked to the press.
Two persons, including a lawyer, who were present in the court have confirmed the development to PREMIUM TIMES.
Mr Amobeda recused himself while delivering a ruling on the case.
“Agba Jalingo’s legal team applied for the electronic recording of the proceedings of the court on grounds that they noticed that the judge was not recording them verbatim and that, in that case, they are afraid that justice may not be done if what they said is not captured the way they are supposed to be,” a lawyer who was at…
