FG creates Centre to check proliferation of small arms, light weapons

To check proliferation of small and illegal arms, the Federal Government has established the National Centre for the Control if Small Arms and Light Weapons.

The Centre is to be headed by Major General AM Dikko (rtd) as national coordinator.

According to a statement by Head Strategic Communication Office of the National Security Adviser, Zakari Usman, the new Centre replaces the defunct Presidential Committee on Small Arms and Light Weapons and “shall serve as the institutional mechanism for policy guidance, research and monitoring of all aspects of Small Arms and Light Weapons (SALW) in Nigeria”.

The statement reads:” President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the establishment of a National Centre for the Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NCCSALW) to be domiciled in the Office of the National Security Adviser.
