Family protests nomination of new Oniru

A royal family in Iruland, Victoria Island, Lagos, Abisogun Oniru Ruling Family, has kicked against the nomination of Mr. Hakeem Ajasa, a retired Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) , as the next Oniru of Iruland.

It will be recalled that a section of Abisogun Ruling House had tipped Ajasa as the next Oniru of Iruland.

The rejection of the nomination of Ajasa was contained in a letter to the state governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Department of State Security Services (DSS) and the Executive Chairman and Secretary to the Iru/Victoria Island Local Council Development Area (LCDA).

A copy of the letter titled: “Re: Vacancy In Oniru Chieftaincy Succession To Fill The Vacancy,” dated December 9, 2019 and signed by the family head, Alhaji Surajudeen Durosimi Abisogun Oniru, said  Ajasa was not the rightful person  to be chosen as the  next Oniru.”
