Buhari decries desert encroachment on farmlands, effect on Nigeria’s future

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday, said climate change was steadily taking a toll on the income of families as farmlands get narrowed with desert encroachments.

Speaking after receiving Letter of Credence of the High Commissioner of Australia to Nigeria, Mrs Claire Ireland at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, Buhari lamented that the vagaries of the weather pose greater risks for the future.

Buhari said the global attention on taming the effects of climate change was important, noting that population had been on the increase in Nigeria, and lands for investment and farming have turned more competitive.
