5 die, 9 injured in Lagos-Ibadan expressway crash

An accident involving a Toyota bus on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway claimed five lives, while nine others were injured.

It was gathered that the crash, which occurred around the Danco petrol station, Sagamu, on Saturday night, affected 14 passengers.

The state’s Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Clement Oladele, in a statement made available to Daily Trust, blamed the crash on speed violation by the driver of the bus marked LSR 642 XB.

According to him, the injured victims have been taken to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, while the corpses of the dead victims had been deposited at the same hospital’s morgue.

Oladele commiserated with the victims and enjoined members of the public whose relations travelled in the Ill-fated crash to contact the FRSC Command in Sagamu for details on the crash.

The Sector Commander reiterated the need for motorists to drive cautiously within the recommended speed of 50 kilometres per hour at construction sites.

“Passengers in vehicles driven recklessly should caution their driver, and where such driver refuses, the passenger can call the FRSC toll-free number 122,” he said.
